Les Amis manager to run double Jersey Marathon

On 5th October Alex, who is Les Amis Facilities Manager, will start his Miles 4 Smiles challenge with thousands of others by running the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, but once he crosses the finish line at the Weighbridge, he’ll carry on with a route that’ll pass all Les Amis’ residential homes until his race finishes after 50 miles with a lap of the running track at FB Fields. The charity is celebrating its 50th anniversary and joining Alex and walking, running or wheeling on some of the 50-mile ultramarathon route will be Les Amis staff and service users.

Alex Black, who will be running the Jersey Marathon with the number 50, said: “I see the difference we make every day, and now, I want to do more. That’s why I’m running 50 miles. To push my limits. Les Amis isn’t just a charity. It’s a family. It’s about giving people the chance to live with independence, with purpose and with joy. The last 50 years of Les Amis existence has been a journey far more turbulent than the terrain on the 50-mile course. The success is owed to its’ community who have invested so much effort into developing true meaning behind inclusion and empowerment values. Completing the 50-miles is by comparison a very small gesture, but hopefully one that inspires, and helps raise funds so that Les Amis can continue supporting beyond another 50 years.”
