I have over 30 years of experience in management and leadership of teams, which began during my military career where I gained the rank of Sergeant.
Since leaving the Army in 2000, I have continued to develop my skills and qualifications in leadership, enabling me to gain status with the Chartered Managers Institute in 2014.
I currently hold the post of managing director of Les Amis, one of the largest charities in Jersey, which supports vulnerable people with learning disabilities and/or associated conditions. Les Amis achieved and currently holds Investors in People Silver, sixth-generation accreditation, making us the first organisation in Jersey to achieve this award against the new IIP standards, something of which I am incredibly proud.
I have found that taking a pragmatic and coordinated approach to leadership issues enables people to see what is required of them so, in essence, organisations can achieve things by keeping it simple.
Who inspires you?
The people we support inspire me on a daily basis. They overcome huge challenges throughout any given day. If society reflected on this more, imagine what we could achieve.
How would you describe your leadership style in three words?
Flexible, approachable and focussed.
What makes a successful leader?
Someone who does not take themselves too seriously, who has their feet firmly on the ground, is part of the team they lead and can have a laugh.
What advice would you give to aspiring leaders?
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight but create it anyway give the best you ave. It will never be enough but give your best anyway.
