Les Amis Wins a Breaking the Stigma Award

Breaking the Stigma Award

Les Amis is the proud winner of the Leaders in Wellbeing ‘Breaking the Stigma’ Award thanks to one member of its team, who put the charity forward following her personal experiences working with the organisation. The Award looks to commend that firm which has taken steps to allow employees to feel comfortable broaching personal and sensitive issues with their superiors, to get the help and support they need to be able to perform their job to the best of their ability. Championing mental health in the workplace, Les Amis aims to be one of the island's best employers, equipped to deal with any challenges which it might face – pandemic or otherwise!

The Support Worker who nominated Les Amis, described the charity as a ‘fair, sympathetic and non-discriminatory’ employer, who excelled itself at the difficult and challenging time of the pandemic lockdown by putting its employees’ wellbeing first. The charity employed a mental health and wellbeing practitioner to help support both employees and service users, carrying out regular health checks to those having to isolate. Les Amis’ continued understanding and flexibility has enabled those within its team with healthcare issues to feel supported, cared for and, most importantly, valued in their roles.

Jersey’s largest charitable employer aims to be inclusive in every sense of the word, from breaking down barriers when it comes to its residents and providing islanders with learning difficulties every opportunity, to creating a safe working environment for all its employees from varied backgrounds and with differing needs.

Les Amis believes that only by creating an open and supportive environment where everyone is treated equally and fairly can we hope to move forward in developing the care facilities and services which the island needs. Treat others as you would hope to be treated yourself and we will discover an altogether kinder, healthier and more resilient society.
