Islanders invited to Bake a Rainbow with Les Amis

May 28, 2020

With islanders spending more time at home than ever before, Les Amis is inviting islanders to take part in the ‘Bake A Rainbow’ community bake off throughout the month of June, which will be judged by Samphire Restaurant.

Throughout lockdown, many islanders have turned to baking as a way of passing the time and learning a new skill. With Les Amis having to postpone all fundraising activities, the charity is unable to have its usual presence out in the community and therefore wanted to do something that would bring everyone together. Les Amis decided a community bake off would be a good way to involve islanders of all ages to collectively get creative and share some positivity during these challenging times.

Les Amis would like islanders to ‘Bake a Rainbow – stay safe’ cake. It can be any bake as long as it has a rainbow theme. The bake off competition, which is free to enter, launches on 1 June and closes on 22 June. Islanders must submit photos of their bakes by email which will then be judged on presentation only. Participants are also encouraged to share their cake creations on social media by tagging Les Amis and using the hashtag #BakeARainbow. Judging will be done by Samphire Restaurant along with two of the charity’s residents and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, which will be announced on the charity’s social media pages.

At Les Amis, the staff teams support and empower residents to develop the necessary life skills which enable them to participate in, and contribute to, their local communities. Les Amis staff are working round the clock to ensure the health and safety of its residents are best supported during the crisis. All residents have been self-isolating together since lockdown began so the bake off will be an excellent way for them to get involved and feel part of the community again.

Shaun Findlay, Managing Director of Les Amis, said: “Baking has become quite the phenomenon during lockdown. It’s a useful skill and fun activity that can involve the whole family, which is why Les Amis has decided to put on a community bake off event for all islanders to participate in together. The rainbow has become our symbol of hope while reminding everyone to stay safe during Covid-19, which is why we have chosen it as the theme for the bake off. We hope as many islanders as possible take part and we look forward to seeing all of the colourful creations.”

Islanders who wish to donate their bakes to the charity would be gratefully received.

In these challenging times, Les Amis needs the continued support of islanders to provide a quality of life to its residents. The charity would like to thank islanders for their ongoing support.
