Les Amis welcomes University College Jersey students, Eleanor and Georgia, who are gaining insights into working with Islanders with learning disabilities.
The BA (Hons) Social Work (Jersey) degree, run by University College Jersey at Highlands College began in 2019. Since its inception, Les Amis have offered placement opportunities to its students to complete the 'practice learning' component of the course.
Georgia remarked: "I'm really enjoying my placement at Les Amis. I've felt welcomed by staff and residents, who clearly have great relationships. Residents are empowered to be independent with person-centred care as a key approach, whether it be choosing their bedroom design, how they spend their day or what they have for dinner. A highlight of my time at Les Amis has been the Residents' Social Club which promotes individuals to 'live their best lives', organising activities like bowling, swimming and St. Malo day trips."
Eleanor commented: "I'm loving my placement with Les Amis so far. Staff have been very supportive and informative. During my time with the Residential Service, I have had the pleasure of getting to know the residents and their wonderful personalities. It is amazing to see the residents work towards independence and acquire necessary life skills, whilst getting involved in the local community."
Tuesday 19 March, the duo prepared a stand collating quotes from residents and service users they've worked with. The two represented Les Amis alongside their Onsite Supervisors and Les Amis Registered Managers, Kerri-Ann Frain and Alison Brolly, at Highlands College during World Social Work Day 2024.
