Les Amis has announced its plans to develop a five-bedroom nursing facility for Islanders with learning disabilities and higher nursing needs, typically due to age and/or dementia. The property purchased in September, is called Brookside in the parish of Trinity.
Having already raised £1 million for the purchase of the property on Rue du Bechet, Trinity, Les Amis will now fundraise a further £2.5 million to complete the project, as part of its original scope of commitment with the former Project Maison des Amis.
Project Trinity will enable Les Amis to continue caring for those whom it support when their nursing needs (including end-of-life care) become more complex than what we can currently facilitate in our group residential homes. This will typically benefit elderly residents, many of whom have been supported by Les Amis for most of their adult lives (in some cases 30-49 years) and for whom Les Amis may be the only 'family' they have left.
Les Amis' Managing Director, Shaun Findlay remarked: "So for people who are elderly, become really frail and require greater nursing, they won't have to leave Les Amis. We hope to start construction on the project in 2025. To have spades in the ground next year would be a very special way for the charity to celebrate its 50th anniversary - our golden jubilee."
