Les Amis welcomes recruits from Africa to bolster its care team

Jun 19, 2023

Ten health care workers who were recruited from multiple African countries, have started work at Les Amis, one of Jersey’s largest charitable organisations, providing residential, domiciliary and respite services for learning disabled Islanders.

Along with other organisations working in the care sector, Les Amis has struggled to recruit people and is now delighted that these experienced health care professionals have joined the team, with the help of local, recruitment company GR8.

Shaun Findlay, Les Amis’ Managing Director, said: “We have a reputation for being a supportive employer that invests in its people. This has been demonstrated by the fact that 44% of our staff have been with us for over five years, with 23 reaching their 10-20-year work anniversary this year. I’ve just reached my 15th year with Les Amis.

Les Amis has been supporting and empowering Islanders with learning disabilities since 1975. Demand for our services is growing, so we need to look beyond our island to find the right people to bolster our team. Fortunately, with partners such as GR8, we can recruit skilled and dedicated people to become valued members of our team.”

Lee Madden, GR8’s Managing Director: “We have built up good relationship with organisations in and we are signing an agreement with the Kenyan Government to recruit skilled employees to work in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and the UK. Les Amis came to us with a specific set of needs, and we were happy to work with them to find the right people to fill those roles. All the people we work with are dedicated and skilled professionals who want to work hard and give something back to the community they are now a part of.”
