Thank you to the Millennium Bar!

Nov 28, 2016

£658.25 was raised!

Les Amis would like to say a massive thank you to Ria Monamy for hosting such a wonderful charity event at the Millennium Bar. We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part today and donated. The money you raised will go towards developing our residential, respite, outreach and day services. Above all thank you to everyone who made our residents feel so welcomed and comfortable at the event today. One of our 5 accomplishments for our residents is to actively participate in the community. It is safe to say they all achieved this and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The day begin with five games of bingo, thank you to Lisa the bingo caller who provided lots of laughs. Lot's of great prizes were won and one lucky lady went away with £100 cash prize! After enjoying a lovely buffet the disco lights were turned on and the karaoke began. Thanks to Sean for the brilliant entertainment during karaoke. Heidi and Kenny stole the show with their rendition of Abbas Dancing Queen - Watch below.

Ria Monamy contacted Les Amis to hold the event after she had attended a presentation explaining the Connect Card Initiative. Introducing 'Connect' - a brand new initiative aimed at helping people with a particular condition or disability to explain their communication needs subtly and succinctly to service providers in the community. The project is a collaboration between many of the Island's disability charities and groups.

Who is it for? The Connect card is meant for anyone with a condition or disability that might affect their ability to communicate and interact. For example, people who are on the autistic spectrum, visually impaired or hearing impaired. Beyond the actual cardholders, the card will also be beneficial to service providers - from bar staff to hospital workers - who can adapt their service provision to suit the cardholder’s specific needs.

“The Connect card will give me confidence to go to new places and try new things independently. Knowing I have it to hand will greatly reduce anxiety levels. It will give me equality as a prospective customer.”
